Hello 2016 – Short Christmas sabbatical is over – now for some Crafting FUN

By on 11/01/2016

Some of you may know that as well as a crazy crafting lady, I am also a Stampin’ UP! demonstrator.  I have been a demonstrator for over four years now and I still love and enjoy all of Stampin’ UP!’s amazing products. Recently a new “Occasions” catalogue was introduced (Jan 5th) and if you haven’t seen it yet, please do yourself a huge favour and contact your demonstrator (I am in Croydon North, Victoria if you don’t have a demonstrator nearby), and have her/him send one out to you.  This catalogue is a beauty. You will notice there is also a smaller catalogue in the picture, this is the Sale-a-bration (SAB) brochure. During Sale-a-bration promotion, which runs from 5 Jan until 31 March, if you spend $90+ on products from the current annual catalogue and/or the new Occasions catalogue, you can choose one FREE product from the SAB brochure. Stamp sets, vellum stacks, Designer Series paper packs, SU Project Life card collections. All beautiful and only available during Sale-a-bration.

Holiday Catalogue 16 (1)

Today, I’m going to talk about one of the bundles I purchased. If you buy Stampin’ UP! ‘bundles’ you save 15% on the combined total of the products.  A nice saving on co-ordinating products.

The “Number of Years” bundle consists of a Photopolymer Stamp Set called “Number of Years”  (containing 29 stamps) and the matching Framelit dies. Bought seperately these would cost you over A$100, but purchased as a bundle, they will cost you $85.75. To view these items in my online shop go to www.barbaraannpaperarts.stampinup.net

Speaking of Bundles, this pretty catalogue is packed with them, and that gives you many opportunities to save on your favourite products.

Number of Years Bundle 50th card

Above is an example of a simple 50th Birthday card made with the “Number of Years” bundle.

Tomorrow I shall be sharing a wedding card I created with the gorgeous “Love Blossoms” suite of products which also includes bundled products.  (Think ‘more’ than Valentine).

Santa waking up

I have to tell you, I have really enjoy rediscovering all the Christmas decorations stored so carefully away each year. This little Santa waking up from his slumbers has been part of our family for almost 35 years and we all love him.  His little bed houses all sorts of goodies, chocolate mainly!  You can’t see it, but to the right on the end of the bed, there is a little  sleeping puppy.  This is so cute.

I have been lucky to be able to take the month of December off from my classes, so have enjoyed finishing off some projects, not least of which has been all those Christmas cards we made in classes this year.  I have written them all, made envelopes for some, and they are now on their way, just a few stragglers still to do, but it is a load off my mind. Stampin’ UP! envelope punch board and envelope paper have been some of my favourite things this year.

My most popular class project this year would have to be this Book Box. I combined the box with handmade flowers which I purchased on etsy.  You can stand this book box upright or it lays flat as shown. It makes a lovely decor piece placed on the table for an afternoon tea.  Some of the happy Book Box ladies pictured here too.

My most popular Pin on Pinterest (which has been repinned over 50 times) is this trio of Stampin’ UP! “Christmas Cuties” Cards. Initially I thought this stamp set not to my usual taste, however, I’m so glad I bought it and it just goes to show that it is worth stepping out of your box sometimes and trying something different. And just a heads up that this stamp set is being retired and is on the Stampin’ UP! End of Year Sale at a great price.  If you want to check it out just click on the Shope online button above and have a browse.  There is a lot to check out.

Some firsts in 2015 –

  • I ran my first Stamp-a-stack classes this year.
  • I started a blog – this is going reasonably well, but requires more planning for more regular posting.
  • Created a Business name – Create With Barb
  • Started Pocket letter swaps with friends in USA and Australia
  • I won a prize in a facebook competition – a beautiful 2016 planner.  Thank you Notemaker.

All in all it’s been an interesting year so far, and it isn’t over yet. I hope you are anticipating a fun Christmas with family and friends, and more crafting in the new year.  I shall be posting a list of upcoming classes and workshops very soon.  Hope to see you there.

Happy Stamping.

My favourite picks:

Christmas Cuties Stamp Set:  My Pinterest post of the cards I made using this set has been repinned 54 times at last count.

Diagonal Plate for Simply Scored:  If you have the Simply Scored Scoring tool, you need the diagonal plate, especially at this price.  It sits on top of your Simply scored tool for easy diagonal score lines at 1/8″ intervals. Great tool, great price.

Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit:  My feeling is that at this price this kit is going to go very fast indeed.  If you want one (and I’m ordering mine now) get in quick.

Square Framelits:  Great for matting your cards, without measuring anything.

All of the Punches, but particularly  the Tag Topper Punch and Little Labels punches set of three small punches.

Don’t forget Stampin’ UP! products make great gifts for crafty friends too.

Happy Bargain hunting.

Happy Friday

By on 20/11/2015

Happy Friday imageHaving spent a lovely day with a friend making cute little box cards and catching up on each other’s news. Hers being all about dresses and catering and outfits and all the other things that go with a beloved daughter’s wedding. There were photo’s and trips to be shared over cups of tea and crafting. Perfect way to spend Friday.

When I had farewelled my friend later that afternoon I returned to see whether anything interesting had transpired on my facebook page. Imagine my surprise when I found a message advising that I had won a prize from a company called Notemaker. I follow their blog because I simply love stationery, and they have some of the most gorgeous stationery imaginable.

They were offering a 2016 Planner from the Rifle Paper Co., All I had to do was finish this sentence. “I will be organised in 2016 when…….” I finished my sentence with the words…. “I actually know what day of the week it is!” I find myself more and more in this predicament. It happens a lot on Thursday’s when I am sure it is only Wednesday but I am just as bad with Fridays, always assuming it is only Thursday.

My office has a perfectly good calendar (two in fact). I have my computer which clearly shows the date but not the day, unless I click on it to find out., I do that sometimes, but clearly not often enough!

So finally not knowing the day of the week has paid off. I do look forward to receiving my prize some time next week and thank Notemaker for making me the winner.

If you would like to go over and browse through some of the beautiful items available from Notemaker here is a link to their website. http://www.notemaker.com.au/ you can also follow them as I do on facebook.  Enjoy.

By on 18/11/2015

This past weekend I attended the first ever global Stampin’ Up! Event “On Stage” at the Melbourne Convention Centre.  This event has been run simultaneously around the world at various locations. It was great to be part of this Stampin’ UP! first because you only get one of those as you know!   The pace at this event was very fast but of course we got a chance to sample some brand new products that we will be able to share with our customers soon.

First of all here is a look at the front cover of the new Occasions catalogue.  I can’t show you inside as yet, but feast your eyes on the covers.

I would love to read your comments.

Dad's letter from Putin and Medal

Another Proud Moment For My Family

By on 31/08/2015

As my nephew Daniel said, “It isn’t every day you get a letter from Vladimir Putin” – But that is just what happened to my dad recently.letter from Vladimir Putin and Dad's medal

He was awarded “The Commemorative Medal, Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War” (WWII). Presented to those serving in the British Royal Navy and their allies the Navy of the Soviet Union.  I don’t think my dad will be able to wear many more medals without falling over from the weight.  Fortunately he also has a set of much smaller dress medals for most occasions.

Feeling Proud.  My dad is 94 years young.

Pyramid Jazz Box1

It’s A Mystery – But I’m so pleased with it.

Pyramid Jazz Box1

When I started making this Pyramid Box, I wasn’t sure what it was going to turn out to be.  I saw one on a website called Scrap happens here, but there were no instructions. In fact the lady was using it simply as a box to choose names from scraps of paper that she had placed inside. however, I wanted one so badly that I decided to try to make one. and here it is. Pyramid Jazz Box two Sides Open with crystal

This is a picture showing the box with two sides open. I decided that my box would be a small stand for all sorts of small items.  This photograph shows it with a small crystal Pyramid, but I had other ideas too.

Pyramid Jazz Box with Tuba Top View I found this little tuba on ebay and thought it would be perfect seeing that my box was decorated with vintage G45 Jazz design paper.

I shall be running classes to make this little box in September and October,  so if it is something you would like to try, let me know by leaving a comment below. One of my students is going to make her’s in a Japanese style and has purchased a small doll dressed in geisha to stand in her box. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Inchies Framed (5)

Creative Paper Crafts – Framed Inchies

By on 22/07/2015

I have a yellow typewriter and I often hide it away because it goes with absolutely nothing in my house.  It’s a good looking typewriter so I would like to display it in some way.

This weekend I was flipping through a copy of Daphne’s Diary, a favourite magazine. Now I don’t like to waste things and Daphne’s Diary is full of great crafty articles, free stuff and beautiful artwork. So I decided to get some use from it other than flipping through the pages and admiring the work of many talented crafters.

I was inspired by a piece of artwork I saw on Pinterest a great source of inspiration.  I set to work with a 1″ punch.  I punched out a whole bunch of pretty squares from just one page of the magazine and ended up with around 20, which I sorted until I found 9 that I thought worked well together.  I chose the background paper based on some free paper received in the DaphInchies punched squaresne’s Diary magazine (it matched my typewriter perfectly).

I punched 9 slightly larger squares and adhered my chosen ‘Inchies’ to one corner, trimming them down so that I had a thin border of Stampin’ UP! Crushed Curry Cardstock around each square. I chose a contrast Cardstock in Midnight Muse, a favourite Stampin’ UP! Cardstock now sadly retired.

This is a simple and economical way to display your artwork, and it’s really fun to make.
